Production Unit - Bridge EP

For the 7th release on our Phuturelabs imprint, we're proud to welcome the Glasgow producer onboard with the "Bridge EP"
Spread over four tracks, Production Unit takes in elements of classic early house and techno with sprinklings of IDM, left of centre electronica and dub.
Opener "A Broken Rusted Angel" combines a fierce bass assault with 808 claps and a hefty percussive backing, turning in on itself half way through with hypnotic synth stabs and eerie strings making an appearance. "Dub Coat Parts 1 & 2" follows and layers minor key skanks over an unnerving backdrop of doom-laden atmospherics and pads.
"This Otha Planet" is next in line and we're in classic techno territory here with swirly synths, cut up vocal snippets and chunky stabs all working to their full potential before "Beat Too" closes the EP and offers up a stripped back slab of electronica packed with rattly percussion and an infectious earworm of a synth line.

The EP is now on Phuturelabs Bandcamp where you can pay what you wish.

Venetian Snares : Sleep LP

Canadian producer Aaron Funk, better known as Venetian Snares, will release a new album next month under the name Sleep.
The record is called Last Sleep and is due out on Planet Mu. It's a marked departure from the violent drum & bass that's long been Funk's calling card as Venetian Snares; as Sleep, he delivers left-field beats with a 4/4, all made while he was on the brink of consciousness. He explains the process this way:
"For awhile, when I was really tired and ready to go to bed instead of going to sleep I would make a tune. Get some stuff going on my sequencers, drum machines, patch up my modular and just jam it. Would fall asleep a lot listening to the sequences, few seconds of sleep or a few minutes, wake up in it. This is what I sound like in my sleep."
