Penalune : Not All Clouds Are White

Broken20 are set to release a new full length recording from Brooklyn-based Penalune aka Christopher Ernst. Its an hour or so of dark, Lynchian, oppressive atmospheres and noise - too uneasy to be called 'drone', it harkens back to classic UK industrial as well as forging a brave new path forwards.
Short sound samples can be found below with the full release out on DVD, with new visual work from Reid Bingham, and digital on 21st May.

Bill Brewster : Porterhouse Blues Mix For Oki-Ni

Oki-Ni's latest in their series of DJ mixes is brought to you by long time DJ and writer Bill Brewster. Bill has brought together a collection of the tracks that define the post-punk era for him, a time when genres smashed together with tremendous creative force and music expanded its frontiers in every direction.

"Most of the records I’ve selected for this mix are old favourites of mine," noted Bill, "usually bought the week of release, but some are new-old discoveries, as the advent of the internet has allowed me to indulge the endless voyage to the No Wave in my mind.”
Bill also posted a full track list breakdown with details on each track over at Oki-Ni (here)

The Dubwood Allstars : Under Dubwood 7"

Release of the day goes to this 7" on Rivertones. Produced by The Dubwood Allstars, on the A side, Under Dubwood takes a seemingly incongruous mix - the words of Dylan Thomas, the voice of Richard Burton and the studio sounds of King Tubby – and makes a psychedelic skank that places Llareggub somewhere just outside downtown Kingston, JA.
On the flip, River Theme is a Time and Space Machine reconstruction that brings wigged out garage rock to the bankside.

Available from Caught By The River (here)

Bob Chance : Its Broken LP On Trunk

Johnny Trunks ever excellent Trunk Records is set to release the highly sought after Bob Chance LP : It's Broken.
Originally a private pressing from 1980, Trunk Records will put the release out on vinyl and CD, not sure on the CD but the vinyl will be limit to 1000 copies, seems a lot but they should fly off the shelves.

Heres the blurb from the Trunk Website:
Walking a strange line between the asylum and the dancefloor, welcome Bob Chance. Yes, this is an album like no other. But then again Bob Chance isn’t like anyone else. Put together in 1980, It’s Broken represents Bob’s creative juices flowing and then possibly overflowing all over the place. I first came across the album as one of the strange slabs of vinyl I write about for my column in Mojo. I described it as the musical equivalent of Curry House DIY, an unusual and unexpected flow of ideas that maybe shouldn’t work together but actually do in a most unorthodox and functional way. And if I have to describe the album musically to people I explain it has a touch of Giorgio Moroder, a bit of the Beach Boys and a sprinkle of Glen Campbell as a serial killer. Whilst writing about the album a couple of years ago I had it on repeat for at least a day, and found myself singing the songs, enjoying the harmonies, reveling in the musical ideas present. How can you not love a nine minute post-disco oddity called “It’s Broken”? Why would you not want to thrill at a five minute instrumental journey into Bob’s jungle? And how about a short trip inside a stalker’s van? Exactly, it’s all irresistible. And now, thanks to this reissue more of us can enjoy the genius that is Bob Chance and his music.

Keep those ears peeled!!

Release Of The Day

For many this may have come at a bad time, after spending a heap over RSD last weekend Shackleton drops this lush boxset in either 3x12" + CD or 2xCD formats and we have to give this the Release of the day!

The full box consists of three pieces of 12-inch vinyl, two CDs and a 12-inch art booklet by frequent collaborator Zeke Clough. The first CD is called Music for the Quiet Hour and contains vocals from Vengeance Tenfold, who has appeared previously on Shackleton tracks like "The Rope Tightens" and "Death Is Not Final," spread over a five-track suite. The second disc is called The Drawbar Organ EPs, containing nine new instrumental tracks

Maybe our wallets have taken a bashing this week but our minds have been opened up to some great new music!

Keep an eye on Shitmat's Soundcloud page as there could well be more of these coming up

Faust : La La La Ressonance

The problem with the digital music age is packaging, there isn't any, we all love gimmicky packaging and this CD from Faust is one of the best packaged pieces we have seen in ages.

Limited to 250 copies, this special edition is in mineral packaging with the CD set between two pieces of fine cut mineral stone.
Priced at 25 euro its not cheap but a very nice item for any collector.

Counterstrike : Drone Remixes EP

At Stupid Nation we like to cover all bases musically, basically anything that pricks our ears up will usually do the job, so today's release of the day is this 4 track digital EP from Counterstrike on Digital Pot Records.
Counterstrike's track Drone from 2010 is given reworks from Kenei, Malsum & Zardonic, Gancher & Ruin and Hallucinator.
We'll be honest it was the Hallucinator mix which got us the most with its relentless pounding beats and dirty synth sound. Check the samples below

Jonny Trunk / DJ Food : Sesame Street Special

Soundtracks, library and television music with Jonny Trunk.
Something of a curveball for you this week, as rather than bring you the recent DJ Food episode (don’t worry, it’s coming!), the man otherwise known as Mr. Strictly Kev has been kind enough to send us a copy of his original OST appearance way back in 2004. We’re more than delighted to have it, partly because we weren’t terribly good at archiving ourselves back then, but mostly because at the time Kev was knee-deep in a project unearthing long-lost gems from deep within the vaults of the former Children’s Television Workshop. Yes, this week it’s all about Sesame Street and Kev brings us a selection full to bursting with tracks that you simply haven’t heard. The seven-minute performance of ‘Superstition’ is worth it alone, but that’s barely the tip of the iceberg. We’ve given you Sesame Street specials on these podcast pages before, but THIS is the original and the material here is largely unreleased.

Little is known, however what is known is this is a killer tune with a massive bassline, check this and the other #Unknown releases here

Just stumbled across MANASYt, an artist who for some time has been producing and releasing some stunning raw industrial electro on labels like Bunker, Psihoataka and Simulacron.
He has a split 12" coming out soon on the London based Clueplant label, which will be a limited edition of 150 copies.
